In this episode, I speak to Emma Tomes. Emma experienced a heartbreaking bereavement to suicide after her son’s father lost his struggle with poor mental health. After working through her own grief Emma is now giving people help that supports positive mental health and prevents other families from experiencing loss due to poor mental health.
In this episode of HR coffee time, Grief Recovery Expert; Emma Tomes, explains how the loss of a role can lead to feelings of grief and shares her tools and tips on ways you can support either yourself or other people who are in this situation.
In this episode, our inspirational guest, Emma Tomes, talks about her life: Becoming a Mum in her teens, the ongoing journey of living with anxiety and loneliness, when redundancy feels like much more than “losing a job”, the impact on her and her family of suicide and her resulting drive to support others through similar experiences. And her recent discovery that… it really is okay to just be yourself!
Some years ago Emma’s son sadly lost his dad to suicide and through the experience of this sad loss, with lack of support and knowledge she was driven to gain greater understanding of how we all uniquely manage and experience loss of a significant person in our lives and help others. We touch on the myths around the ‘expected’ griefing process and the additional loss of our plans, hopes and dreams and managing anticipated grief / loss of a loved one too.
n this Episode I’ll be talking to the amazing Emma Tomes. Speaking to Emma was such a humble experience and her passion and laser focus on helping others can only be admired. We cover the important subject of suicide prevention and how we can understand it better, being such a complex issue it was great to get Emma’s insight and knowledge on the subject. We also talk about the impact on friends and family and how we can help if possible. If there’s one episode you need to listen to then please listen to this one, its interesting and heartbreaking but one we all need to try to understand a little bit more. Make sure to follow her facebook page Talking with Tomes, she is always ready to listen and if you or you know someone who needs to talk make sure you get in touch.
